Born 1973 in Freiburg, Germany

Katharina Schlieben is based in Zurich. Since summer 2004 she is working together with Sönke Gau as a curatorial team at the Shedhalle in Zurich. The curatorial concept focusses on long-term projects following thematic aspects over a year: “the mental comma instaed of the full stop” is one curatorial strategy that shedhalle looks after. 2004/2005 the thematic line “Pleasure Principle, Spectacle or the Carnivalesque?” investigated the mode of the carnivalesque as an activistic but also spectacular strategy. 2005/2006 the thematic line “Colonialism without Colonies?”. Between 2002 and 2004 she worked in the curatorial team together with Maria Lind and Sören Grammel at the Kunstverein in Munich, Germany. Previous projects include «Urban Nomads » (London, 2001) and « site-seeing: disneyfizierung der städte? » (Vienna, 2002/2003). She is also part of the inter-disciplinary group Daniela Johnson (founded in London, 2001). Teaching activity at the HGK z (Academy, Zurich), f+f art school (Zurich) and the art school in Luzern.
Research focal point is on investigation of artistic practice in relation to knowledge production and on performativity of curatorial practice.
