Jan Van Woensel is an independent curator, critic, lecturer and musician. In 2007, he was appointed as Curatorial Fellow of Art in General and Bloomberg LP, New York. In the USA he curated the 1st Whitehot Magazine Festival at the Lower East Side in NYC; an exhibition of sound works by Caroline Polachek, Lee Ranaldo and Guns ‘n Roses at the Contemporary Art Museum in St. Louis; and Le Point Zero, the first solo exhibition of Belgian painter Philippe Vandenberg in New York. Currently he is working on an interactive, audiovisual landscape with Lee Ranaldo (Sonic Youth,) and Leah Singer; a solo exhibition of kinetic installation artist Kris Vleeschouwer at Zendai MoMa in Shanghai, an exhibition about video art from Belgium at the American University Museum in Washington DC, and the group exhibition Bad Moon Rising, launched at Silverman Gallery in January 2008, San Francisco, and traveling to Boots Contemporary Art Space in St. Louis, MO, in 2009.
He teaches Studio Art at NYU’s Department of Art and Art Professions (New York), Professional Development and Exhibition Models at CCA dept of Curatorial Practice (San Francisco), and he is the Fall 2008 Curator-in-Residence at Otis College of Art and Design (Los Angeles).
